Thea Dodd Introduces Rural Chic

When I started photographing weddings in 2001 the new school of wedding photojournalism was just starting to bloom. As a photojournalist at the time, I jumped on board. I did the strict PJ approach to weddings for 3 years until I developed my own unique style and started Authentic Eye Photography.

Authentic Eye is located in the lakes region of New Hampshire and specializes in country weddings and rural chic portraits. Rural chic is a term coined by my clients to describe the experience during their formal portraits.

I aspire to make a timeless image when crafting a bride and groom portrait. I do this by creating closeness in an image without always using physical closeness, juxtaposing a clean landscape with a rusty tractor or run down farm building and using the environment to elicit the couple’s unique beauty.

I love what I do and where I live and find that the most wonderful people travel from all over the country to have a New England wedding. They often come with an image in mind of fall colors, rolling hills and glowing sunlight. I am happy to offer these clients the quality and creativity often only found in large cities with the unmatched beauty of rural New England.
